Tesla releases Autopilot update with fully autonomous features in August

The American car manufacturer Tesla has announced through director Elon Musk that a major update will be released in August that will probably turn on some functions in the context of fully autonomous driving at a later time.

It concerns version 9 of Tesla’s Autopilot software. According to Elon Musk, the company has so far only focused on safety with the Autopilot, but from August there may be some functions that improve autonomous driving. Musk has not yet said much about the exact functionalities and improvements, and when exactly they will be implemented.

On Twitter Musk said zei however, that an improvement is being made, for example, in the handling of the car in the situation of a busy rush hour in which two lanes are merged. Someone on Twitter complained that the Autopilot has so far not been able to pass a car in the adjacent lane that has driven a little forward in this situation, so that the driver is driven into a corner, as it were. According to Musk, this will be improved with the August update.

Musk has previously promised a new update to Autopilot for this week, which should bring “significant improvements”. It would involve a number of incremental improvements to Autosteer and TACC. Musk also said that in the next few months an improvement will be made that will make the system better able to assist with exits from the highway.
