Automaker Tesla is releasing the $35,000 version of the Model 3 in the US. The cheapest variant will be released in Europe within three to six months. To bring the price down, many of the automaker’s stores have to close.

It is still unknown how much the $35,000 car will cost in euros. The Standard Range variant has not yet appeared on the site. Presumably that is because it is not yet released in Europe, while it will be released in the United States. Only the black variant costs $35,000, other versions cost an additional $2,000.

To be able to offer the car at that price, Tesla reduces other costs within the company. That’s why it closes many of its stores and customers can only order cars online. For example, 6 percent of the price of the Model 3 can be reduced, the company estimates. It is unknown how many layoffs will result from the move. Some stores in busy locations will remain open as showrooms.

Tesla had promised a $35,000 variant when it introduced the Model 3 a few years ago, but it hasn’t offered a car at that price yet. The Model 3 is the manufacturer’s cheapest car to date.
