Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted at the opening of the Tesla factory in Texas that his company is working on a dedicated robot taxi. He also said Tesla aims to start production of the previously announced household robot next year.

Musk gave not much details about the robot taxi during the live show. According to him, the vehicle will “look pretty futuristic”. He did not say when this vehicle will go into production, how many people it will hold or how the taxi will function. It will probably be a robot taxi that will drive completely autonomously, but there are no details about this.

Musk also spoke a little more extensively about Optimus, the previously announced robot that is also called Bot. According to him, Optimus will be able to do everything that people don’t want to do. He sees the necessary economic opportunities for the robot, with which he probably refers, among other things, to shortages of workers. Musk speaks of a ‘century of plenty’ and believes that the robot can bring about a greater degree of change in the world than the car has done. He thinks there is a chance to start production of the first version of the robot sometime next year.

It concerns a human-like robot that will take over household tasks, for example. The robot shares a lot of hardware and software with Tesla cars. This humanoid robot should be about 173cm tall and will weigh about 57kg. Optimus gets two arms with a hand with five fingers on each arm, and two legs. The Bot also has a head with a screen that can display information. It also contains cameras for the autopilot system with which the robot can navigate. During the presentation, Musk indicated that Tesla will ensure that the robot is safe and that no Terminator-like scenarios will occur.
