Tesla is still under the production number of 2,500 Model 3 cars per week
Tesla reports that a total of 2020 copies of the Model 3 car were built in the last week of March, which means that the target of 2,500 cars per week has not been met. Tesla’s highly automated production process and problems with battery production play a part in this.
According to the American car manufacturer, approximately 2020 copies of the Model 3 will also be built in the first week of April, after which this weekly number will quickly increase during the second quarter of this year, reports the website Electrek, among others.
Tesla has previously announced that the fact that the stated production numbers of the Model 3 have not been achieved, is related to the commissioning of a highly automated production process and problems with battery production. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced to the Washington Post last November that the cause was partly due to the robots of his battery factory Gigafactory 1. However, it also seems that the Model 3 consists of a lot of steel, which requires more welding. The Model S and X are more aluminum.
Even though Tesla has not met its target of 2500 Model 3s produced weekly, it is going a lot better than at the end of last year. In the last seven days of the last quarter of 2017, the manufacturer built a total of 793 units of the Model 3.
With this number of 2020 Model 3s built in the past week, the total number of cars produced for this model in the past quarter has risen to 9,766. When all models are added together, Tesla produced a total of 34,494 cars in the first quarter of this year. The remaining 24,728 cars built were Model S and Model X. Production of the cheaper Model 3 began in July last year, at the beginning of the third quarter.
