Tesla has produced its millionth electric car. This milestone was achieved some twelve years after Elon Musk became CEO of the company. Tesla was founded in 2003 under the then name Tesla Motors.

Elon Musk announces on Twitter that the millionth car is a red Model Y. This makes Tesla the first company to reach the milestone of one million electric cars produced, at least when it comes to electric cars that can travel a considerable distance. Currently, Tesla is about to release the Model Y, the latest model, in the US.

Tesla still had production problems in 2018, which the company said were due to the use of too many robots in the production process. Those problems have been overcome. The automaker produced a total of just over 415,000 cars at its US plant in Fremont in 2019, compared to just 20,000 cars in 2013, rising to 62,000 in 2015. The company expects to reach a capacity of half a million per year. go to this factory.

The relatively new factory in Shanghai, China, is expected to have an annual capacity of 150,000 cars, for the time being only the Model 3. The Model Y will later be produced there. A new Tesla factory is being built in Berlin, where the Model 3 and Y will eventually be produced.

Musk poses that Tesla might never have existed if the American company AC Propulsion’s Tzero electric sports car hadn’t existed. This was the inspiration for the Tesla Roadster, production of which started in 2009. Musk took office as CEO in 2008, although he indicated in a podcast in January that he actually did not want to become CEO of the company, partly because he was already the head of SpaceX at the time.
