Tesla drives 728.7 kilometers on a battery charge
Two Norwegians managed to cover a total of 728.7 kilometers on a single battery charge in a Tesla P85D, the second most expensive in the Model S series. To cover the distance, they drove an average of 39 kilometers per hour for eighteen hours and forty minutes.
After charging, the Tesla itself indicated that the vehicle could still drive 399 kilometers. That pale so it can be stretched with 329.7 kilometers by driving slowly and, among other things, not using air conditioning or radio, although driving is done in the dark with the lights on. The total amount of energy used was 77.5 kilowatt hours with an average of 106Wh per kilometer. They did disable the rear-wheel drive, as the car is normally driven via four wheels.
Hypermiling is a popular pastime among electric vehicle users. A previous ‘record’ with a Tesla is 681.8 kilometers. In Japan, in 2013, a number of people managed to drive an electrified Suzuki Every 1,300 kilometers at an average speed of around 29 kilometers per hour. The records are not official by the way.
