Tesla delivered record number of cars in 2020
Tesla delivered 499,550 cars in 2020. That is 450 after the target set by Tesla CEO Musk and about 130,000 more than the company delivered in 2019. In the past quarter alone, Tesla delivered most of that half-million: 180,570 cars.
With the arrival of these numbers, it appears that Tesla has set an annual record and a quarterly record at the same time. The company shipped four 161,650 Model 3s and Model Ys and 18,920 Model S and Xs in the quarter, according to the report. Tesla’s car factory in the American Fremont was also temporarily closed due to the corona virus; that was from late March to mid-May, when Elon Musk reopened the doors against orders.
Part of Tesla’s car will also be made in Europe in the future. In Grünheide, Germany, work is currently underway on a so-called Gigafactory, where the car brand will initially produce its model Y. The plant is expected to be completed in mid-2021. Work is also underway on a factory in Austin, Texas, and a factory has recently been opened in Shanghai.
