The new versions of Terraria for the Wii U and 3DS will be released in the first quarter of 2016, publisher 505 Games announced. Both games use the touch-sensitive screens of the Nintendo consoles.

Developer Re-Logic is announcing the new versions of the game through Terraria’s official forum. The studio hopes to reach a new audience with the versions for 3DS and Wii U. In addition, the studio wants to ‘explore the possibilities of dual-screen systems’. Via Twitter adds the studio has yet to say that the versions for Wii U and 3DS will be released in the first quarter of 2016.

Terraria takes place in an open but two-dimensional game world that is randomly generated. Players receive a pickaxe, ax and sword. Resources can be mined with the pickaxe, wood can be cut with the axe and the sword is used for fighting. The gameplay of Terraria is somewhat similar to Minecraft. The game was released for Windows in 2011, and has since been released for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. Versions for OS X and Linux are in beta.
