Telenet unjustly lowers customer speed due to bug in telemeter
Telenet customers complain that the provider has significantly reduced their speed because they have used far too much data. Due to a bug in the telemeter, customers seem to consume many terabytes in a day, exceeding their bundle in a short time.
Since Sunday afternoon, several customers have been complaining on Twitter that they are experiencing a problem with their telemeter, the tool that keeps track of their data volume. The meter appears to have run amok, indicating to some users that they hundreds, thousands and in some cases even millions gigabytes in a single day.
The problem is that the provider automatically lowers customers’ internet speed during peak times if they exceed their limit, even though the company advertises “unlimited surfing.” Telenet sees customers as ‘intensive users’ if they use more than 500GB during peak hours. The company considers the period between noon and midnight as peak hours.
Customers who purchase ExpressNet (XL), Fibernet, TurboNet (XL), Fibernet XL, Internet Fiber with unlimited surfing will be reset to 10Mbit/s during peak hours if they exceed the 500GB limit. They only return to their old speed at the start of a new month. Telenet reports be aware of the problem; technicians would work on a solution.
