Telenet sells cell towers to American company for 745 million euros
Telenet sells its cell tower activities to the American investment company DigitalBridge. The sale concerns 3,322 places with partly cell towers, for which DigitalBridge pays 745 million euros.
Telenet transfers its cell tower infrastructure to a subsidiary called TowerCo and sells all shares in this business to DigitalBridge. Of the 3322 locations that are part of the sale, Telenet owns 2158, of which 38 percent of the cases are transmission towers.
Telenet’s board of directors decided in October last year to sell its cell tower infrastructure. Bloomberg then mentioned an expected amount of 600 million euros that the sale should yield.
Telecom providers all over Europe are selling cell towers. This concerns passive infrastructure, such as the mast and security, for which they no longer have to do maintenance. The active infrastructure, such as the antennas, remain in the possession of the telecom providers. The buyer focuses exclusively on maintenance of the masts and rents them out to the providers.
