Telenet manages to sell more triple-play packages and mobile subscriptions
In the first three months of 2014, cable operator Telenet was able to persuade more than 24,000 customers to purchase a triple-play package. The number of customers who have a mobile subscription with Telenet is also still on the rise.
Telenet reports in the financial figures for the first quarter that 24,100 triple-play subscribers have been added. According to the cable company, this is the strongest growth since 2009 for this subscription form, which includes telephony, internet and digital television.
In addition to the growth in the number of triple-play subscribers, Telenet saw the number of mobile subscriptions increase: in the first quarter of 2014, 29,300 subscribers were added, mainly for the King and Kong subscription types. The cable company expects further growth in the coming period, partly because it can offer its customers 4G and because of the possibility to double the call and data bundle with ‘Supersize your King’.
Telenet now has 1.5 million customers who watch digital television, a growth of 5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2013. Yelo TV, the platform with which Telenet subscribers can also watch TV on tablets and mobile phones, now has 419,000 users. while more than 100,000 customers are now purchasing the Rex and Rio subscriptions that promise unlimited viewing of films and series.
Despite the growth in triple-play packages and mobile subscribers, Telenet says that the turnover of 416.8 million euros and the year-over-year turnover growth of 3 percent is partly due to reduced revenues from the sale of mobile phones. Various promotions for premium packages for digital television would also have an impact on sales. For the whole of 2014, Telenet expects to achieve a turnover growth of 6 to 7 percent.
