Telenet is going to stop signaling old decoders because encryption will stop

Telenet is removing the decoders that the company supplied between 2007 and 2013 from the market because the supplier is ending support for encryption. About 15,000 Telenet customers still rent such a decoder, while 30,000 purchased units are still active.

As of March 31, the signal from the digicorders and digiboxes that Telenet supplied between 2007 and 2013 will stop. The company reports that the supplier has announced that it no longer offers the key for the encryption of the video signal that runs through the decoders. According to Telenet, the devices received their last update in May 2014 and therefore did not have the latest functions, such as the modern menu and ‘Review TV’.

Telenet is now recalling the rented digicorders and digiboxes from approximately 15,000 customers; they can exchange the devices for newer decoders at no additional cost. There are still 30,000 decoders in use that customers have purchased. Telenet offers them to rent a newer one or to buy another one. Until July 31, tenants pay nothing, but from that period they will pay 4.53 or 9.37 euros per month for a digibox or corder, respectively. If you still want to buy, you will receive a 15 euro discount on a box or a 35 euro discount on a digicorder. Finally, Telenet refers customers who do not want a decoder to CI+ cards, the Yugo app or the Yelo TV website.
