Telenet is going to stop signal old decoders because encryption stops
Telenet is taking the decoders that the company supplied between 2007 and 2013 off the market because the supplier is ending support for encryption. Approximately 15,000 Telenet customers still rent such a decoder, while 30,000 purchased ones are still active.
From March 31 the signal stops of the digicorders and digiboxes supplied by Telenet between 2007 and 2013. The company reports that the supplier has announced that it no longer offers the key for the encryption of the video signal that runs through the decoders. According to Telenet, the devices received their last update in May 2014 and therefore did not have the latest functions, such as the modern menu and ‘Replay TV’.
Telenet is now recalling rented digicorders and digiboxes from approximately 15,000 customers; they can exchange the devices for newer decoders without further costs. There are still 30,000 decoders in use that customers have purchased. Telenet offers them to rent a newer one or buy another one. Tenants then pay nothing until July 31, but from that period they will pay 4.53 or 9.37 euros per month for a digibox or corder respectively. Those who still want to buy receive a 15 euro discount on a box or 35 euro discount on a digicorder. Finally, Telenet refers customers who do not want a decoder to CI+ cards, the Yugo app or the Yelo TV website.
