Telenet does not want to reverse price increase despite protests

Telenet does not intend to roll back a price increase announced last month for its services. The cable company received a lot of criticism for its intention to increase the rates to 2 to 3 euros per month.

The prices of various Telenet services will increase from 25 January. For example, the price of Basic Internet + Digital television will increase by 1.99 euros. This means that subscribers will soon have to pay 51.69 euros per month for the package. In addition, the prices of the triple play packages Whop and Whoppa will increase to 65.49 euros or 75.94 euros per month respectively. Individual internet and television subscriptions are also becoming more expensive, as are the rental of an HD recorder and a FreePhone Europe subscription.

Telenet calls the price increases necessary because the costs for the company would have increased. Despite this, angry customers on Facebook started a petition last week calling on the cable company to change its plans. This resulted in more than 25,000 statements of support in a short period of time.

Telenet does not seem impressed by the angry reactions: the marketing director of the company states that the increases are justifiable because the company has more to offer customers. For example, the company offers hotspots and is working on upgrades that should enable speeds of up to 1Gbit. “In addition, customers are free to come and go,” said the cable operator.
