Telegram update lets users create chat backgrounds themselves

Telegram has released an update for its application on Android and iOS. As a result, it is now possible for users to create their own background on the chat screen. For example, it is possible to take a wallpaper and modify it.

Telegram calls this Chat Backgrounds 2.0, and the new functionality is in version 5.3 of the application. This has since been released, and can be downloaded for users who use Android or iOS. With Chat Backgrounds 2.0 it is possible to adjust a wallpaper, for example by changing the orientation, or by adding blur. Color patterns and color intensity can also be adjusted.

If you don’t want to make backgrounds for chat screens yourself, you can also use those of others. Telegram has made it easier to exchange wallpapers by sending them with a link, and a search function has also been added; matching backgrounds can be found with keywords.

However, there seem to be some problems with the distribution of the update on the iOS operating system. Founder Pavel Durov posted a message online stating that it is not yet possible to distribute the iOS update due to problems with the App Store.
