Telegram lets users delete unlimited messages from private chats
Telegram users can now delete messages in 1-on-1 chats, regardless of how old those messages are. Previously, there was a maximum period of 48 hours. After deletion, no message is left that a message has been deleted, something that competitor WhatsApp does.
The function also applies to the other party’s messages. Not only individual messages can be deleted, but also entire chat logs, after which it seems as if the two parties have never had contact. These new capabilities do not apply to group conversations.
Competitors also have the delete function, but more limited. WhatsApp allows the user to delete messages he or she has sent for up to an hour, while Facebook Messenger gives you ten minutes to withdraw a message.
Furthermore, Telegram now allows restrictions when it comes to forwarded messages. The author is listed with those messages, but that author can now indicate whether his name is clickable or not. If not, others can’t just message them.
Furthermore, the Russian developers of Telegram report that it is easier to find gifs, emoji and stickers and that call quality in the app has been improved. The update, with version number 5.5, is available immediately through both the Apple and Google app stores.
