Telegram messaging service has more than 100 million monthly recurring users. According to the team behind the chat service, the number of users is growing by 350,000 per day. Telegram continues its upward trend.

It was also announced on the Telegram blog that 15 billion messages are sent via the application every day. In August 2015, the number of daily messages was still 10 billion. In May 2015, 62 million people used the application at least once a month. In less than a year, the use of the application grew significantly by about sixty percent. The same goes for daily growth, which increased from 220,000 new users per day to 350,000.

Telegram took advantage of its position as an alternative to WhatsApp when it was acquired by Facebook. People who disagreed with Facebook’s takeover of WhatsApp saw Telegram as a good alternative. The team behind the application initially stated that their service enabled more secure chatting through the end-to-end encryption of secret chats. The security of Telegram’s encryption has since been questioned, while WhatsApp now offers standard end-to-end encryption with the help of OpenWhisper.

In December, Telegram also benefited from a setback for WhatsApp. Brazil blocked that chat service, after which Telegram saw its user total increase by more than 1.5 million within a few hours. Despite this, Telegram is significantly smaller than its competitor. WhatsApp has ten times more users with a billion users.
