Telegram gets support for group calling
Telegram gets a function that allows users to make group calls. Over the next few weeks, the chat platform will also get video calling support and a screen sharing feature.
Each Telegram group chat can be provided with a voice chat room, Telegram reports. Its operation is similar to the voice channels of a Discord server. Telegram voice conversations coexist with regular text chats and are available all the time. Telegram group members can join the voice chat room of a group conversation at any time. Telegram voice calls support “ several thousand attendees ” according to the platform, making the feature suitable for large-scale live events as well.
The feature will be available for the Telegram mobile apps and the desktop versions of the chat platform. The latter variant will also receive support for push-to-talk. Telegram for Android, in turn, gets a voice chat overlay that allows users to make group calls even when the app is not in use. Android users can also move Telegram media and files to an SD card with the update. IOS users can now have Telegram messages read aloud by Siri.
Telegram announces that the group calling function will be expanded further ‘during the coming weeks’. For example, a video calling function is planned. The chat app also gets improved noise cancellation and a function that allows users to share their screen. Earlier this week, it was announced that Telegram will also add paid features over time. In addition, the company reports that this concerns functions for companies, or extras such as premium stickers.
