Tech Challenges of Startups – Designing an Outdoor Play Controller

Every year, dozens of tech start-ups start in the low countries that have big dreams, but have to overcome technical hurdles to make them come true. In this article we discuss what the start-up Picoo encountered when developing a controller for outdoor use.

Children nowadays spend too much time indoors, move too little, play too little together and are often locked out while playing. You hear these kinds of noises regularly and Iris Soute decided to work on a solution during her PhD research. With a technical product, because children are captivated by technology, she thought: a device without a screen, but with interactive technology for the stimuli that children are so used to today. Combining technology and outdoor games, that was Picoo’s idea. However, developing a product for that purpose involved quite a few technical headaches.
