Team Group Showcases PCIe 5.0 SSD With Read Speeds Up To 13GB/s And Capacity Up To 4TB
Team Group has announced its first PCIe 5.0 SSD. According to the manufacturer, this will be available this year in the T-Force Cardea series, with capacities up to 4TB. Team Group expects to start mass production of the SSDs later this year.
Team Group writes on its website that the T-Force Cardea SSDs achieve sequential read and write speeds of ‘more than 13GB/s’ and ‘more than 12GB/s’ respectively. Arbitrary throughput speeds are not mentioned yet. An accompanying photo shows an SSD with options for a large aluminum heatsink and a flat graphene heatsink.
The SSDs will receive support for the NVMe 2.0 specification and, of course, a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. It is not known which controller the SSDs have. The manufacturer writes that mass production of the T-Force Cardea series will start in the third quarter of 2022. More concrete release dates are not yet known and no price indication is given.
Team Group is not the first manufacturer to announce a PCIe 5.0 SSD. Earlier this year, Adata showed two prototype PCIe 5.0 SSDs, which would offer read speeds of up to 14GB/s. Samsung also showed a PM1743 SSD with a PCIe 5.0 interface, although it is intended for servers. Those drives are currently being sampled and mass production will begin this quarter.
