Team Group sends its first consumer DDR5 modules for validation
Team Group has sent its first DDR5 modules to motherboard manufacturers for validation. These are 16GB modules with a speed of 4800 megatransfers per second. The modules also have a standard voltage of 1.1V.
Team Group has finished developing its first engineering samples of consumer DDR5 modules, the company reports. The memory manufacturer is now conducting validation tests. The company works together with motherboard manufacturers such as ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI. These first DDR5 dimms from the company will each have a capacity of 16GB. In addition, the memory manufacturer reports that the dimms are supplied with a speed of 4800MT / s from the factory and operate at a voltage of 1.1V.
For the time being, there are no consumer platforms that support DDR5. According to rumors, the future Zen 4 and Alder Lake platforms from AMD and Intel will both receive support for the new memory standard. Jedec already published the final specifications of the DDR5 standard earlier this year. This shows that the memory chips support, among other things, error-correcting code on the memory chips themselves. However, it is not yet clear whether all DDR5 modules come standard with ecc support.
The burst length is also doubled and dimms get their own voltage regulators integrated, where this was previously controlled on the motherboard. This should simplify the production of motherboards and improve the yields of memory chips, by limiting the influence of voltage changes. The first DDR5 modules are expected to reach a speed of 4800MT / s, as is the case with the Team Group modules. In time, modules with higher speeds must become available. For example, SK Hynix mentioned the arrival of DDR5-8400.
