Team Cherry postpones the release of Hollow Knight sequel Silksong. A spokesperson for the company announced this. The game was scheduled for the first half of 2023, but that release period will not be met. The company is not sharing any new release expectations.

“We planned to release Silksong in the first half of 2023, but development is still ongoing,” says Matthew Griffin of Team Cherry. He states that the game has become “quite big” and that the studio therefore wants to take the time to make the game as good as possible. The company does not say when the game is expected to be released. Team Cherry will provide more details as the release approaches.

Silksong is the upcoming sequel to the 2017 metroidvania game Hollow Knight. The game follows Hornet, a character from the first installment. Silksong was initially going to be an expansion of the first game, but was announced in 2019 as a “full-fledged sequel.” That same year, initial gameplay footage of the game was shared during a Nintendo presentation, but little was said about the game in the years that followed.

Hollow: Knight Silksong was shown again in June last year at the Xbox Games Showcase. Microsoft then stated that all games shown at that event would be released within twelve months. With that, the game should have been released no later than June 12, 2023. That release period is therefore no longer feasible, Team Cherry reports on Wednesday. The game will appear when it comes out for the PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
