TCL Releases New 4K LCD TV with Mini LED Backlight and HDMI 2.1 in Europe
TCL will release three 4K LCD TV models in the new C Series in Europe this year. These will compete with midrange televisions from other manufacturers. The most expensive model has a mini LED backlight and HDMI 2.1 support.
It concerns the C82, C72+ and C72. The C82 has a mini LED backlight, although it is not clear how many individually dimmable zones there are. This model has four HDMI 2.1 connections that support 4k120 and vrr. There is support for all major HDR standards, including HDR10+. Dolby Vision IQ is also present, the system for adapting the application of the HDR standard Dolby Vision based on the lighting conditions in the room. The stated maximum peak brightness is 1000cd/m².
In addition, TCL comes with the C72+ and C72. These will be cheaper than the C82. Like the C82, they have a backlight with quantum dots, but they do not have a mini LED backlight behind the LCD. The C72+ also has four HDMI 2.1 connections for 4K120 and VRR and supports the same HDR standards, but TCL does not provide the maximum brightness of this model. The latter also applies to the C72. This model has to make do with three HDMI 2.1 connections, but according to FlatpanelsHD, this model does not support 4k with 120Hz or VRR; only allm would be supported.
The C82 comes in 55 and 65 inch sizes. Both the C72+ and the C72 come with screen diagonals of 55, 65 and 75 inches, with only the C72 also a 50″ version. TCL has not yet announced prices for the new models. The C82 will be available from June and the other two models will be released at the end of this month or early next month.
Later this year, the new high-end models from the Chinese manufacturer will follow. For example, an 8k TV should appear that uses the so-called OD Zero technology. This would make it possible to achieve a maximum brightness of 1800cd/m² and to combine this with a mini LED backlight with two thousand dimmable zones. Later this year, the new TCL TVs will also receive Google TV, the new home screen that is built on Android TV.
