Tax authorities postpone declaration due to overloaded site – update
The Tax and Customs Administration has decided to give citizens two more days to file their tax returns. Many people were unable to file a digital tax return on Monday because the website of the Tax and Customs Administration became overloaded.
According to a spokesperson, who spoke to BNR, it was exceptionally busy on the site on Monday evening and tens of thousands of people tried to submit their declaration digitally. “It is always the case that it is quite busy on the last day, but in previous years we could handle that well. Now it was so busy that the site became overloaded,” said the spokesperson. Many people already announced via Twitter that they were faced with a long delay in submitting the declaration, or that they were unable to do so at all.
“If you submit your tax return on April 1 or 2, 2014, you will still be on time. You will then also receive a message before July 1, 2014”, let the Tax and Customs Administration know in response to the problems. By opting for a two-day spread, the service hopes that there will be no new problems with people who wait until the last minute.
Update 11.10: According to BNR, the Tax and Customs Administration had to process 500,000 digital declarations on Monday, which, calculated from 06.00 in the morning, comes to a number of almost 8 declarations per second.
