Tamron announces stabilized 18-200mm mega zoom
Tamron has released a new version of its 18-200mm all-in-one lens, the 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Di II VC with image stabilization. The model is intended for aps-c cameras from Canon, Nikon and Sony. This is the lightest lens in its class; it weighs only 400 grams.
The zoom lens succeeds the Tamron 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD. The previous model was introduced about ten years ago, but lacks image stabilization. The design is made in such a way that the whole weighs as much as its predecessor with sixteen elements in fourteen groups. An ld lens element is used to counteract chromatic aberration. The diaphragm is formed by seven blades. The minimum opening ranges from f/22 to f/40. The autofocus motor should also work faster and quieter than that of its predecessor.
The whole measures 9.7 centimeters and has a diameter of 7.5 centimeters. The filter size is 62mm. No image stabilization has been added to the lens for the Sony-a-mount, since it is built into the camera itself. The Sony version is therefore later than the Nikon F and Canon EF versions, and is called 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 Di II, without the VC designation. The whole is not suitable for full-frame cameras.
The Canon and Nikon variants will be available from 20 August and will have a suggested retail price of 290 euros.
