Take-Two has shipped 65 million copies of GTA V
5 million units of Grand Theft Auto V were shipped in the past quarter. Since its release in 2013, the total now stands at 65 million copies. Rockstar Games will soon be announcing what new projects the studio is working on.
The numbers emerge from an investor call about the quarterly figures of Take-Two Interactive, the owner of GTA V development studio Rockstar. When announcing the figures, the publisher expressed its expectations for the coming years. In addition, Take-Two said it expects higher sales in its 2018 financial year, which begins in April 2017.
That expectation is based on the games that should be released, but it is not known which ones. Take-Two says Rockstar Games is “working hard on some promising projects to be unveiled soon.” Rockstar is likely to announce more at E3 in June.
Grand Theft Auto V, which was released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, is still an important source of income for Take-Two. In the past year, 13 million copies were delivered. Take-Two also earns a lot from the sale of DLC and virtual money. 37 percent of total quarterly revenue came from such user ‘recurring spending’.
Despite the good sales figures, Take-Two Interactive, which owns 2K and Rockstar, failed to make a profit for the entire year. The loss was $8.3 million. That is considerably less than a year earlier, when the loss was 279 million dollars. At 1.4 billion dollars, turnover was considerably higher than the 1.1 billion in 2015.
