Demand for tablets is growing so rapidly that tablet sales are expected to overtake notebook sales in 2016. In particular, the tablet market in North America, Europe and Japan is growing rapidly. Mini-notebooks were about to disappear.

Expectations are made clear with figures from market researcher NPD DisplaySearch, who says that tablet sales will increase from 121 million units in 2012 to 416 million units in 2017. Notebook sales will increase from 208 million units in 2012 to 393 million units. in 2017. By 2016, tablet sales will have already overtaken laptops, according to NPD DisplaySearch.

According to the research agency, this is mainly due to the high demand for tablets in North America, Europe and Japan, among others. New products are often the first to be launched in these markets, as the infrastructure and services are already well established here. This year, these markets will account for 66 percent of notebook and tablet sales. Interest in these markets is expected to slowly shift from notebooks to tablets.

In addition, the boundaries between notebooks and tablets are expected to blur. Notebooks will be thinner and the screens will also have higher resolutions and touch sensitivity, according to the research firm. Mini-notebooks, such as netbooks, will almost disappear, is the prediction.
