System76 Releases Serval WS Laptop With Ryzen Desktop Processors
System76 has released a new version of its Serval WS laptop, which features a desktop version of AMD’s Ryzen CPU. The laptop runs on at least a Ryzen 5 3600 and has a GeForce RTX 2070 GPU and 64GB of RAM.
It is the first laptop model from System76 that does not run on an Intel chipset. System76 has been releasing the Serval WS laptops for some time, which are actually mainly mobile desktops. This year’s edition runs on the Ryzen chips and comes with Linux. The laptop is based on a Clevo barebone.
The Serval WS 2020 comes in several editions, all with third-generation AMD chips. The laptop can be purchased with a Ryzen 5 3600, a Ryzen 7 3700X or a Ryzen 9 PRO 3900. There are two GPU configurations available from Nvidia. These are the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti or the RTX 2070.
The laptop can also be supplied with up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, and the device has two M2 SATA or PCI-e NVME SSDs for 2TB of storage, with an option to expand to 8TB.
The laptop has a 15.6″ screen with a full-HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Connection options include two USB 3.2 ports, a USB 3.2 USB-c port and a USB 2.0 port. , and an SD card reader.There is also a gigabit Ethernet connection on the laptop, and the device supports WiFi 6 ax.
The laptop is 32x360x258mm in size and weighs 2.7kg. The battery is 62Wh and, depending on the GPU, comes with a 180W or 230W charger.
System76 ships the laptop with Ubuntu, or with its own Linux distribution Pop!_OS. No Windows configuration is available. The prices of the laptop start at 1299 dollars or 1154 euros, but whoever takes all the maximum specs will pay around 5000 dollars. That is without VAT. The availability is not yet known.
