System76 releases Linux workstation with up to four RTX Quadro video cards
System76 releases its Thelio Mega workstation. This Linux desktop has a Threadripper CPU and up to four Quadro RTX video cards. The desktop has a suggested retail price starting at $ 7499.
The company equips the Thelio Mega with an AMD Threadripper 3000 processor with 24, 32 or 64 cores. The desktop can be equipped with different numbers of video cards. The base model features two Quadro RTX 4000 video cards, which are equivalent to the RTX 2070. The most expensive model has four Quadro RTX 8000 GPUs. There will also be variants with RTX 2080 Ti GPUs or up to three RTX 3090 video cards.
The housing of the Thelio Mega is 478mm high, 263mm wide and 438mm deep, giving the PC a mid-tower form factor. The case is partly made of wood, where the user can choose from different types, colors and finishes. The housing is also open-source; users can download the schematics of the Thelio Mega case and build the case themselves.

The PC makes full use of air cooling. The PC also has two RJ45 connectors, seven USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connectors and a USB-C connector. The Thelio Mega also supports 10-gigabit Ethernet. The computer comes standard with a 1600W power supply with an 80+ certification and an efficiency of ’90 percent or higher ‘.
The entry-level model of the Thelio Mega costs 7499 dollars, which, converted and including VAT, amounts to 7,650 euros. For that amount, System76 will supply a Threadripper CPU with 24 cores, two Quadro RTX 4000 video cards, 32GB DDR4-3200 memory with ecc and a 250GB NVMe SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface. The most expensive variant costs $ 46,953. That has been converted and with VAT approximately 47,899 euros. This model is equipped with a Threadripper 3990X CPU, 56TB of SSD storage, four Quadro RTX 8000 video cards and 256GB of DDR4-3200 memory with ecc.
The Thelio Mega comes standard with Ubuntu or Pop_OS, System76’s Linux distribution. Earlier this week , the company released a new version of its operating system. This one is based on Ubuntu 20.10 ‘Groovy Gorilla’, which was released on Friday . Pop_OS 20.10 includes all the new features of the most recent Ubuntu release, but also gets extra features, such as fractional scaling for displays. The Pop_OS installation of the Thelio Mega can be encrypted from the factory with LUKS.
