System76 Powers Oryx Pro Laptop With Intel Comet Lake-H Processor

System76 is releasing a version of its Oryx Pro laptop with a tenth-generation Comet Lake H processor from Intel. The rest of the laptop’s specs remain the same, although it now comes optionally with Ubuntu 20.04 lts, ​​and System76’s proprietary Open Firmware.

It concerns the existing Oryx Pro laptop, a high-end computer based on a Clevo barebone. The computer came with a ninth generation Intel CPU, but now comes with a new version, the company writes.

The Oryx Pro is now available with an Intel Core i7-10875H, a tenth generation Comet Lake processor. It has eight cores and sixteen threads, a clock speed of 2.3GHz or 5.1GHz, and a cache of 16MB.

The laptop can come with System76’s own Linux port Pop!_OS or with Ubuntu. In the latter case, the laptop comes with the most modern version, Ubuntu 20.04 lts. In addition, System76 loads its own Open Firmware on the laptop. That is an open source firmware based on coreboot firmware and EDK2. Ultimately, System76 says it doesn’t want to run any proprietary software on its laptops anymore.

The rest of the laptop remains the same. There are still two versions coming out with different screen sizes. One has a 15.6″ screen, the other 17.3″. Both laptops can be supplied with a maximum of 64GB of memory and 4 terabytes of storage, and have a 73Wh battery and support for Wi-Fi 6.

The laptop is available from $1,623. That is converted and including VAT 1756 euros. That is for the cheapest configuration.
