System76 powers Galago Pro Linux laptops with Tiger Lake CPUs and Thunderbolt 4
System76 refreshes its Galago Pro Linux laptop. The product will include a Tiger Lake CPU from Intel and a Thunderbolt 4 connector. The battery capacity is also increased. The laptop will be ‘out soon’. The suggested retail price is not yet known.
System76 ships the new Galago Pro with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 or Core i7-1165G7. The laptop uses the integrated Xe GPU as standard, but can optionally be equipped with a GTX 1650 from Nvidia. In terms of storage, the laptop has a single M.2 slot, which can be equipped with a maximum of a 2TB NVMe SSD with PCIe 4.0 interface from the factory. The manufacturer also supplies the laptop with a maximum of 64GB of DDR4-3200 memory.
The battery capacity has also been increased; the new Galago Pro has a 49Wh battery, while the old model had a battery capacity of 35.3Wh. Charging is done via a DC connection. System76 supplies a 65W charger with the Xe models; users who purchase a GTX 1650 variant will receive a 90W charger.
The Galago Pro has a USB-C connection, which also supports the Thunderbolt 4 standard. The laptop also has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connector, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 type-A connectors and a microSD card reader. The Galago Pro is also equipped with an HDMI connection. One of the USB-C connectors also supports Displayport 1.2.
The manufacturer provides the laptop with a 14 “screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The panel has a matte finish, but System76 does not mention a panel type. The laptop is also equipped with core boot and open source firmware that is made by System76. the Galago Pro ships with Pop_OS 20.10, Pop_OS 20.04 LTS or Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Pop_OS is the Linux distribution of System76, which is based on Ubuntu.
According to System76, the updated Galago Pro will be on the market ‘soon’. The company is not yet mentioning a suggested retail price. The original Galago Pro had a suggested retail price of $ 899 for a Core i5-10210U quad-core version.
