System76 announces Pangolin laptop with AMD soc and 144Hz screen
System76 has posted information online about a new version of its Pangolin laptop. Just like the earlier variant, the new model will have an AMD processor. That’s a Ryzen 7 6800U. There is also a 144Hz screen on the laptop.
System76 confirms the arrival of the laptop on a teaser page, although there is little to tease because practically all specifications of the laptop are already online. The laptop is a Pangolin model, which System76 first announced in late 2020. The previous Pangolin laptop still ran on a Ryzen 5 4500U, but the new model will be equipped with a Ryzen 7 6800U. The laptop also gets a Radeon 680M GPU and a maximum of 32GB of Lpddr5 ram at 6400MHz. The laptop contains two M.2 SSDs with a PCIe NVMe slot for up to 16TB of storage.
The laptop also has a 15.6″ screen with a 1920×1080 resolution with a refresh rate of 144Hz. The 70Wh battery charges at 65W and the device also has a gigabit Ethernet connection, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 on board. The laptop has three USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port and an SD card reader, an HDMI 2.0 connection and another USB-C connection with DisplayPort.
The laptop measures 37x24x1.8 centimeters and weighs 1.79 kilograms. Like all other System76 hardware, the new Pangolin ships with Pop!_OS. That is version 22.04 LTS, but it is also possible to have the laptop delivered with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
The only information that is still missing is the release date and the price, but according to 9to5linux the laptop will be released in mid-February for $1299. That is converted and including VAT about 1450 euros.
