Synology to release its first router in Europe in mid-November
Synology has officially announced its first router, the RT1900ac. The 802.11ac router runs the Synology Router Manager operating system, and its functionality can be expanded through the company’s Package Center.
Synology showed its router at the CeBIT trade show in Germany this spring and has released more details. According to the company, the operating system Synology Router Manager on the RT1900ac should distinguish itself by, for example, showing the amount of bandwidth that programs and devices consume and offering the possibility to reduce it in case of excessive use.
Parental controls can also be set by blocking access to websites via a blacklist and only granting access to certain devices at set times. Extensions can be added to the OS via Synology’s Package Center, for example to use the router as a media, VPN or DNS server. The device can also be used as a download station.
Storage can be attached to the device via the USB 3.0 port and there is also a memory card reader. The router also supports USB modems for 3G and 4G access. In addition, there are four gigabit Ethernet ports and the dual-band RT1900ac has a 3×3 antenna arrangement. It is not yet known what the router will cost. The router should be released in Europe in mid-November.
