Synology has released the beta of version 8.0 of Surveillance Station. A desktop client has been made available with that version. Previously, the camera images were only available via the browser.

The desktop client is available from Synology’s website and only works on computers running Windows 7 or later. The installer is approximately 80MB in size. A portable version is also available. Synology states that to use the client, at least the beta version of Surveillance Station 8.0 must be installed on the NAS. The company also appears to be working on a version for MacOS.

Synology Surveillance Station is an application for Synology’s NAS systems. The application makes it possible to save the images from different ip cameras on a nas and view them live or later. Until now, the camera images were only accessible within DiskStation Manager, the operating system for Synology’s NAS products, which can only be viewed in a browser.
