Synology Releases RS1221+ NAS with Eight Bays

Synology releases a new NAS. The RackStation RS1221+ has a Ryzen CPU and has eight bays. A Synology RS1221RP+ with redundant power supply will also be released, the manufacturer says.

The NAS are mainly intended for companies, Synology says. The difference between the devices is that the more expensive RS1221RP+ uses redundant power supply through the use of two PSUs. The NAS both accommodate two rows of four SATA bays. They use an AMD Ryzen V1500B CPU. The predecessor used an Intel Atom chip.

According to Synology, the device is about 3.6 times faster than the previous model. The RS1221+ and RS1221RP+ both have a random read speed of 108,000 iops and a sequential read and write speed of 2315MB/s and 1147MB/s respectively. The device has 4GB ECC memory that can be expanded to a maximum of 32GB. It is also possible to expand the number of drives to twelve bays via an RX418 expansion.

On the back are four gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports and an e-SATA slot. The NAS have a consumption of 49.89 and 61.94W respectively when they are active, and 22.64 and 29.98W in sleep mode. The RS1221+ measures 482×306.6x88mm, and the RP+ is slightly larger at 482×407.5x88mm. The RackStations are already on Synology’s website, but prices and availability are not there.
