Synology Releases DS2422+ NAS with Twelve Bays and AMD Ryzen Quadcore

Synology releases the DS3622xs+ and DS2422+. Both NAS systems have twelve bays. The top model is equipped with 10GbE ports and a Xeon D-hexacore. The DS2422+ is a cheaper model with gigabit Ethernet and a Ryzen quadcore.

Synology DiskStation DS3622xs+

The Synology DS3622xs+ contains an Intel Xeon D-1531 with six cores and a maximum clock speed of 2.7GHz. The NAS has 16GB DDR4-ECC memory, which is expandable up to 48GB. The housing itself has room for twelve 3.5″ HDDs, but this can be expanded to a total of 36 pieces. For this, two DX1222 expansion units must be connected, each of which can also contain twelve HDDs. Synology provides the NAS with two 10GbE connections and two 1GbE ports.

The Synology DS2422+ has a similar form factor to the more expensive model and also offers space for twelve HDDs, but is equipped with an AMD Ryzen V1500B processor. That processor from the Ryzen Embedded series has four Zen2 cores that do their job at a maximum of 2.2GHz. There is 4GB DDR4-ECC memory in the nas and that can be expanded up to 32GB. The DS2422+ can also be expanded with a DX1222 module, but only one of these can be connected, for a total of up to 24 HDDs. The cheaper model has to make do with four gigabit Ethernet ports.

Both NAS systems have a PCIe 3.0 x8 expansion slot, but only the expensive model uses eight lanes. The cheaper version has four lanes. The PCIe slot can be used for plug-in cards such as 10GbE or 25GbE network cards, or adapters to accommodate M.2 SSDs. The devices run on Synology’s DiskStationManager 7.0.

Synology aims at small businesses with the NAS systems. The prices excluding VAT are 2666 euros for the DS3622xs+ and 1713 euros for the DS2422+. With VAT, that comes out to about 3226 and 2073 euros respectively.
