Synology has released the first version of DiskStation Manager 7.0, the operating system for its NAS systems. According to Synology, the new version is the largest update ever and offers, among other things, a new interface that should work more smoothly and intuitively.

Those interested in trying out DSM 7 can do so on the Synology website. After creating an account, the user can register. Incidentally, Synology decides who gets access; selected users will be invited to download the software.

The manufacturer has posted an overview of the new functionality on its website, which also makes it clear that the preview is intended as a pre-beta version. If you want to wait until the final release, you can already see which systems are compatible with the new software on the webpage.

In DSM 7, among other things, the interface has been adjusted, so that it should feel more intuitive and easier to work with. In addition, Synology also promises that the software works faster; a frequently heard complaint from DSM is that it functions slowly. Furthermore, a new photo application has been developed and the audio and video applications are merged into Synology Media Center. Active Insight gives users better insight into the performance of their NAS.

Last month, Synology announced that the beta release of DSM 7.0 would be delayed, after previously promising to release it before the end of 2019. The company wants to use the extra time to add more functionality to the software.
