Synology offers up to 48TB storage with DiskStation DS1815+
Synology has released the DS1815+, a business-oriented NAS that offers space for eight drives. The storage system is equipped with a quad-core Intel processor and can be equipped with up to 6GB of RAM and 48TB of gross storage.
The DS1815+ includes an Intel Atom C2538, a quad-core CPU running at 2.4GHz and equipped with hardware acceleration for AES encryption. Synology plugs two 1GB memory modules into the nas as standard, but with two strips of 2GB and 4GB, a maximum of 6GB of RAM can be placed in the DS1815+.
Hard drives up to 6TB can be mounted in the eight drive bays, good for a maximum gross storage capacity of 48TB. If two DX513 expansion units are also connected to the NAS via the esata ports, the gross storage capacity increases to 108TB. The storage system also offers four USB 3.0 ports.
Like the recently released DS1515+, the NAS has four gigabit Ethernet ports. According to Synology, this means that read and write speeds of 450MB/s and 420MB/s respectively can be achieved. However, when applying AES encryption, the write speed drops to 190MB/s.
Synology supplies the NAS without hard drives for prices from 889 euros. The DS1815+ is available immediately.
