Synology comes with compact DS414slim-nas

Synology has announced the DS414slim, a compact NAS with four drive bays in which 2.5″ hard drives or SSDs can be placed. The NAS has two USB 3.0 ports and two Gigabit Ethernet ports.

According to Synology, up to 6TB of gross storage capacity can be made available on the DS414slim by inserting four 1.5TB 2.5″ hard drives. Internally, there’s a Marvell Armada 370, an ARMv7 soc clocked at 1 .2GHz Furthermore, the DS414slim has to make do with 512MB RAM.

The NAS’s two LAN ports support link aggregation for merging the Ethernet connections and failover management of failures. Furthermore, the DS414slim offers two USB 3.0 connections. Synology specifies the read and write speeds at 111MB/s and 55MB/s respectively.

Synology runs the NAS on DSM 5.0, the latest release of its firmware. The manufacturer also claims that the 60mm fan is easy to replace. According to Synology, the NAS uses 15.5W on average. The DS414slim is available immediately and has a suggested retail price of 220 euros.
