Synology announces new DS1813+ and DS1513+
Synology has introduced two new NAS systems as successors to the 2012 models. It concerns the DS1813+ and DS1513+. According to Synology, these storage systems with eight and five drive bays are mainly intended for small to medium-sized businesses.
The DS1513+ and DS1813+ are both equipped with an Intel Atom D2700, a dual-core CPU with a clock speed of 2.13GHz. The working memory in the two new nas systems is expandable. 2GB is available as standard, but up to 4GB DDR3 RAM can be installed. The systems also contain four gigabit Ethernet connections, while the previous models still had to make do with two Ethernet connections. Synology has also equipped the DiskStation systems with what they say is improved trays, which would produce less noise and are completely screwless.
According to Synology, the DS1513+ can achieve read and write speeds of 351MB/s and 202MB/s respectively. Similar performance is reported for the DS1813+. Because 4TB drives can be placed in both nas systems, the DS1513+ offers a maximum of 20TB of storage, while the DS1813+ can offer up to 32TB via the network.
Both systems are equipped with two USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 connections. By default, the NAS installs DSM version 4.2, the latest version of Synology’s DiskStation Manager firmware. In the PriceWatch, the DS1813+ has a street price of around 880 euros, while the DS1513+ should fetch around 700 euros.
