Sync for Reddit creator releases Sync for Lemmy client for Android
The creator of the popular third-party app Sync for Reddit has created a new app to use Reddit alternative Lemmy. The app allows users to access all servers of the federated social network.
The app is called Sync for Lemmy and is now available in the Play Store. The app is made by the same developer as Sync for Reddit, which was one of the most popular third-party clients for Reddit for years, until Reddit stopped making that possible. Users can use the app on various servers running a Lemmy instance. It is possible to make a one-time payment of 15 euros to use the app ad-free.
The Android app’s privacy labels state that the app may share “personal info and Messages” with third parties. The app can also collect ‘financial information’ and it is not possible to delete data from the app.
Lemmy is a federated alternative to Reddit. Users can create communities and host them themselves. Other users can visit them from other servers. That’s similar to how Mastodon works. Lemmy emerged after Reddit changed its API earlier this year, meaning third-party apps would no longer be supported. Since then, many Reddit alternatives have emerged, with Lemmy being one of the most popular.
