On Tuesday evening, a 43-year-old man was arrested in his hometown of Ede who is suspected of hacking the database of virtual provider Simpel, which took place last weekend. The man came into the picture soon after the start of the investigation, according to the police, so that the arrest by the High Tech Crime Team of the National Criminal Investigation Department could take place within a few days.
Three computers, USB sticks, memory cards and an external hard drive were also seized during the arrest. The Edenaar has been taken into custody and is being interrogated by detectives from the High Tech Crime Team.
On Saturday it was announced that hackers had obtained customer data from virtual provider Simpel, but in the following days it turned out that the hack was bigger. Digital burglars managed to access 158 databases of, among others, the virtual providers Simpel, Youfone and Lebara, but also those of artists such as Rene Froger, after entering through a leak on Frans Bauer’s site. The leak was the result of a ‘human error’ at hosting company Aspider.
