Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Patch Introduces Piranha Plant and Custom Moves
The version 2.0 patch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out. Players who registered their copy of the game before January 31st will receive a new fighter, the Piranha Plant from the Super Mario games. In addition, Nintendo has tweaked the moves of a large number of fighters.
Nintendo has posted a long list of the tweaks in the patch notes. This is unique, because Nintendo’s patch notes are rarely very comprehensive. The list shows in detail which moves have been modified and what has changed. Some fighters involve multiple moves, such as Rosalina & Luma, the Mii Brawler, and Jigglypuff. It is likely that the changes will affect participants of the European Smash Ball Team Cup, whose final will take place next spring.
In addition, Piranha Plant is available to players who have registered their game and redeemed the fighter download code received via email. This code is valid until June 30, 2019. Piranha Plant is the first DLC fighter available for Smash Bros. Ultimate. The second, Joker from the jrpg Persona 5, was announced during The Game Awards in December 2018. There is no release date for this new fighter.
Update, 11:17 AM: A number of players are reporting via the official Nintendo Switch subreddit that using Piranha Plant in All Star mode will render saved data unusable. A Nintendo moderator has confirmed the issue. Players are advised not to play the mode until a new patch is released.
