Super Nintendo World will open on February 4 next year. It is a themed area around Super Mario games and is part of the Universal Studios Japan amusement park, which is located in Osaka. The main attraction is a Mario Kart roller coaster with sleigh elements.

Nintendo Japan describes one of the main attractions of Super Nintendo World called Mario Kart – Bowser’s Challenge. This is a roller coaster based on the Mario Kart games. It takes place in a renewed recreation of Koopa’s Castle, better known in English as Bowser’s Castle.

It is a roller coaster with two rails where two trains compete against each other. Occupants are given special Mario hats with screens for displaying augmented reality elements. There are also steering wheels in the carts, where four seats per cart can be found. It is not entirely clear what exactly those wheels are for, partly because the roller coaster trains run on rails. Bloomberg already has a short video impression published from Super Nintendo World.

This Mario section of the existing amusement park in Japan has been under construction for years. It should be an environment reminiscent of the Super Mario games and visitors will receive a wristband that is connected to an app. With this band, visitors can interact with objects in the amusement park to collect coins just like in the Mario games.

Super Nintendo World should have opened its doors this year, but that was postponed due to the corona pandemic. Last month, Nintendo Japan announced that this section would not open until the spring of 2021, but that is apparently a bit earlier.
