‘Successor Windows Phone Mango offers universal search’
Microsoft would like to build a universal search function into Windows Phone Tango, the successor to Mango. The feature is said to have been implemented in an early build. The search function can be used to search the phone and linked accounts.
The new search function would search all elements of the phone and also perform a search via Bing, writes the moderator of a Slovak smartphone forum. The moderator is said to have a working build of Windows Phone Tango running on a device. Devices with Mango should be on the market in September or October; smartphones with successor Tango would appear in 2012.
In Mango, Microsoft seems to have already taken a lead on the new role of the Search button, which is present on all Windows Phone devices. Where the Search button in the first version of Windows Phone 7 was still context-sensitive and could have a different function in apps, in Mango it always leads to the search engine Bing.
It has been known for some time that Microsoft is already conducting tests with the successor to Windows Phone Mango, but concrete details about the functionality were missing until now.
