Successor Nokia N810 gets hspa support

The successor of the internet tablet Nokia N810 will have hspa on board. This is apparent from a presentation that Nokia recently gave. However, it is still unclear whether calls can also be made with the new internet tablet from the Finnish manufacturer.

A beta of the fifth version of Maemo, the operating system of Nokia’s internet tablets, will be available soon. That made chief engineer Kate Alhola familiar in a presentation at the Embedded Linux Conference in San Francisco. Maemo 5, which is still known as Fremantle, will include an interface that is easier to operate with the fingers.

The specifications of Maemo 5 also mention connectivity via hspa, the fast variant of umts. However, it is still not clear whether Maemo 5 equipment can also be used to make calls. Another novelty in Maemo is the integration of Trolltech’s Qt 4.5. Thanks to this toolkit, applications can be developed that not only run on Maemo, but can also be installed on Symbian S60, Windows and Windows Mobile with minor adjustments, Alhola says in the presentation. Exhibition site The Street suspected already this week that new internet tablets from Nokia are on the way. The first should be in stores by the end of this year.
