‘Successor’ classic Snake game coming to smartphones
A spiritual successor to the Nokia classic Snake has made its way to Android, iOS and Windows Phone. It is not an official successor to Nokia, but the original developer of Snake has contributed to the smartphone version.
Snake Rewind, as the game is called, was already announced and can be downloaded for Android, iOS and Windows Phone since the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The game is free, but players can purchase credits, which can also be earned in-game. Although Nokia is not involved in the game, it is a spiritual successor: Taneli Armanto, the original developer of Snake in 1997, contributed to the game.
The game contains ten levels, which can be bought with credits, but also unlocked. Users can also pick up or buy power-ups with credits, such as a slower game speed or an impact shield, which gives users more time to swerve if the snake threatens to hit itself or the wall. In addition, the game contains a Rewind function: if the user dies, he can exchange credits to turn back time and continue playing.
Players can earn credits by picking up fruit, but can also buy hundreds or thousands of credits at once from the in-game store. For some powerups, which cost 5,000 credits, that’s actually a requirement. Incidentally, users can also earn smaller amounts of credits by watching a video ad.
