Strange: wide-angle star photography disappeared from Google Pixel

One of the reasons to be impressed by Google Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 is because it allows you to take great pictures of the starry sky. Not many phones can do what Pixel can do in that regard. Bad news: Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 can no longer do astrophotography in wide-angle.

Take star photos with Google Pixel

It does not necessarily mean that you can no longer take beautiful star photos at all, only it is now up to the main camera sensor to take care of this, versus the ultra-wide-angle lens that you could use for this, TheVerge writes . If you still want to be able to do this in wide angle, you must make sure that you do not download the latest update. On the other hand, this is of course never recommended: often there are also security improvements in such an update.

You can easily see while shooting whether your phone has already been updated. When your phone observes the starry sky and you zoom out to 0.6x, you will get a notification that says you have to go to 1x for astrophotography. Why Google removed the ability to shoot the sky in wide angle is unknown. Google didn’t announce at all that it intended to do this.

Ultra wide angle lens

Now, photos taken with an ultra-wide angle lens have a tendency to turn a bit greenish. So it may be that Google has removed the option because it got too many complaints and would like to try to do something about it. In any case, it is strange that the company does not come up with a statement.
