Stoic Studio has raised more than $400,000 through its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to create The Banner Saga 3. With that, the most stretch goals have been achieved. As a result, the game gets a Survival Mode and ‘Eternal Arena’.

The Eternal Arena is a new game mode in which fighting techniques can be tried out in quick-play challenges. It is a sandbox-like mode in which the gameplay rules can be adjusted. Tournaments will be organized weekly in this Eternal Arena. This mode will come to The Banner Saga 3 along with Survival Mode at a later date, after the game has been released. Both options were stretch goals in the campaign. One last goal, for making a comic book series, was not achieved.

The target of $200,000 was reached in the first week of the 40-day campaign. The statistics that Stoic Studio shows also show a peak at the end of the campaign. A total of 8086 people have pledged money. Most backers went for the $20 option, which also gave them instant access to the first two parts of the game that have already been released.

Stoic Studio says it will use the money to improve the production and development of the game. Although the page mentions “December 2018” as an estimated delivery time, the developer points out that this does not mean that The Banner Saga 3 will be released then. The game’s release date will be announced later.

Money was also raised for the first part in 2012 via Kickstarter. At that time, more than $700,000 was raised. The second part was made with proceeds from the first game, but the developers regretted it. The studio was running out of cash and little attention was paid to the community. That’s why the creators returned to Kickstarter for the third and final installment.
