SteelSeries releases keyboard that gives light effects to Discord message
SteelSeries has released a keyboard that, via RGB lighting under all keys, is able to display certain lighting effects when, for example, an e-mail arrives. The lighting effects also work specifically with voip program Discord.
The Apex M750 mechanical keyboard can display all kinds of lighting effects in a variety of colors. Specifically, support has been added for the voip program Discord, which is popular among gamers. For example, lighting effects on the keyboard, such as a flashing numeric part of the keyboard, allow the user to see when a new message arrives.
For example, light effects can also show what the current mute status is within Discord and who is currently talking. There is also specific light support for Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which focuses mainly on the horizontal row of number keys and the w, a, s, and d keys.
The keyboard uses mechanical QX2 switches. They should be whisper quiet and have a lifespan of 50 million keystrokes. The keys have an activation point of 2mm, with the length of the travel being 4mm; it is not necessary to press the key all the way to activate the key’s function. The keyboard is made of aluminum and weighs almost 1kg.
The light effects are also available on, for example, the Rival 700 from SteelSeries, a gaming mouse with an OLED screen. The same goes for other SteelSeries products, such as QcK’s Prism mouse pad and the Arctis 5 and Siberia 650 headset. The Apex M750 can be ordered via the SteelSeries website and will cost 170 euros. A matching wrist rest costs 15 euros.
